Dad and me on SBS Insight 🐩 vs 🐅

SBS Insight invited me to speak on their Modern Parenting episode.

To make things more interesting, they wondered if my dad would like to come on the show too. Dad can talk under wet concrete about parenting, so there we were at Tullamarine Airport, ready to fly to SBS’s Sydney studios.

Inclement weather meant most of Sydney’s runways were closed. There were no flights until 6 pm that night. Ho hum.

SBS decided to send a small crew to film us at home the following week. Cue a lot of panic cleaning. (You know it’s a deep clean when I scrub under the toilet brush and inside the terrarium bowl.)

The SBS crew were lovely and very patient. I spent most of the time marvelling at Dad’s acting skills. We had to get out of a car. Walk to a tennis court. Play tennis. Do some maths homework.

“DAVID! STOP LOOKING AT THE CAMERA!” the crew shouted at Dad.
“Sorry!” he said sheepishly.

Anyway, by the end of the day, Dad Eng-DeNiro was besties with the crew, we’d hoovered up Mum’s homemade sausage rolls and the kids were getting used to being tiny starlets.

Here’s the resulting segment on SBS Insight’s Modern Parenting episode. We’re on at about 14 minutes and 14 seconds (to be precise): Insight | SBS On Demand

And an article too, where you can enjoy Dad’s epic head of eighties hair: David is a ‘tiger parent’. His daughter is a ‘poodle’ parent | SBS Insight

Now someone get Dad his own chat show. Stat!
